In the News: Worlds collide at Bubby’s

ELLA EMHOFF x BUBBY’S x PLACARD PARKING
Well, this was kind of an only-in-New-York — or really, only-in-Tribeca — situation: TMZ reports that while Ella Emhoff was eating at Bubby’s on Tuesday, one of her plain-clothed secret service agents got into an altercation with — and this is the best part — a parking placard vigilante! The suspect, who was later arrested by the NYPD, tried to tinker with the license plate of the giant SUV that Emhoff arrived in (why don’t these folks just drive their charges around in sedans?? like, a Subaru?), thinking it was a police officer’s private car, and that the secret service agent was the offending car owner…

20 EXCHANGE PLACE SELLS FOR A RECORD AMOUNT
Crain’s reports that the residential tower 20 Exchange Place in Fidi, which was once among the world’s tallest skyscrapers, was sold for $370 million. From Crain’s: “DTH Capital, a firm linked to the Belgium-based Bruckner retail dynasty, sold the 57-story, 767-unit, landmarked site in an off-market deal that closed Wednesday to The Dermot Co., a developer that has been increasingly active in New York, Crain’s can exclusively report.”

A REVIEW OF FOUQUET’S NEW YORK
The Times of London gives Fouquet’s a 8 out of 10, calling it a “magnet for the rich and famous (in a city full of the rich and famous). Tribeca is not the place for a basic or budget hotel, and Hotel Barrière Fouquet’s New York is anything but…Inside is a den of delights with music and art everywhere — from the bottom, with its subterranean spa and movie theatre, to the top, with its open-air bar. (This is news to me — did they permit this??)

BOYFRIEND SHOPPING IN WHOLE FOODS
The Post interviewed a gal who said she “shops” for boyfriends in Whole Foods. “The best time to go ‘Boyfriend Shopping’ at Whole Foods during the week is around lunch or after work,” Sarah Lapi, 29, told The Post on Friday. And this is straight from The Post “‘On the weekend,’ continued the 25-year-old romance hopeful, ‘go in the morning around 10:30 a.m. or 11:00 a.m., when everyone is finished with their workouts. I find it easy to interact with potential candidates when I need help reaching for something, which usually sparks a mini conversation,’ said the petite pinup.”

  1. Dogs don’t bother me at all, they don’t pose any immediate health risk, but you know what does? When entitled people place their filthy granny carts with wheels full of street debris and shiza, directly into the shopping carts where our food then gets placed. Don’t think dogs pose nearly as much a health risk. Just sayin’

  2. It must be a company wide mandate. I sometimes shop at the WFM at One Wall St. and there are lots of doggies there, too!

  3. Heaven forbid we hurt some entitled dog owner’s feelings.
