11/10: Watershed Moment

••• Today at 5 p.m.: “Manhattan Borough President Scott Stringer is leading a rally at Stuyvesant High School on Chambers Street to protest the plan [to drill for natural gas in New York City’s watershed] and to provide an opportunity for public commentary.” —Broadsheet Daily

j-alexander-courtesy-barnes-and-noble••• J. Alexander (right), a judge on America’s Next Top Model and author of Follow the Model: Miss J’s Guide to Unleashing Presence, Poise, and Power, will be reading at 7 p.m. at Barnes & Noble Tribeca.

••• “105-107 Reade Street, a 16,822-square-foot Tribeca mansion that was on the market as recently as April for $14.5 million, has sold to a foreign investor for $10.075 million. For those who don’t feel like getting out the old abacus, that’s $599 per square foot. The five-story building—which was in financial distress, according to a brokerage press release—was built in 1860 and has a restaurant, Pierino, on the ground floor. The building went on the market for $20 million and failed to sell in 2008. For the moment, the new owner will occupy the property.” (Curbed) [note: Sazon is at 105-107 Reade. I haven’t lived in the neighborhood long enough to know if Pierino preceded Fresh in that space]

••• Pen Parentis, a group of authors with kids, is hosting a reading tonight from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. at the Upstairs Library at the Libertine, inside the Gild Hall Hotel (15 Gold St.). The speakers are Joanna Smith Rakoff, author of A Fortunate Age, and singer songwriter, novelist, and radio personality Stewart Lewis. Wine is available.
