As Easy as Pie

Apple-sour-cream-and-walnut pie from Kiva Cafe

There’s nothing wrong with outsourcing Thanksgiving dessert. Some of us just aren’t cut out to bake pies—or anything, really—and besides, wouldn’t you and your guests rather have a delicious dessert than a homemade one? Luckily, Tribeca has many wonderful bakers. Several of them require orders to be placed soon, so don’t put this off till the last minute. Outsourcing dessert is one thing; passing a box of Twinkies around the Thanksgiving table is another altogether.

BILLY’S BAKERY
Is there pumpkin pie? Yep. The 9” pie serves 6 and costs $24.
• But I hate pumpkin pie: Other options include pecan, cherry, peach, key lime, apple crumb, banana cream, and peanut butter chocolate.
Actually, I don’t like pie much at all: If you want something at least semi-traditional, you might consider caramel pecan cheesecake, pumpkin bars, cupcakes with holiday-themed decorations. And there are many other types of cakes—yellow, chocolate, banana, German chocolate, carrot, red velvet, coconut, and pineapple upside-down. Other cheesecake flavors include plain, cherry, chocolate, and blueberry. And don’t forget lemon bars, brownies, Hello Dollies, cookie sandwiches….
• Anything else I should know? Assorted sprinkles are always free.
• Ordering: Stop by the bakery or call anytime through Friday, Nov. 20.
• Pick-up: The last pick-up window is 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. on Wednesday, Nov. 25.
• Delivery: Yes, but there’s a $20 fee for anywhere in Manhattan.

• But I hate pumpkin pie: Bouley Bakery is also making apple and pecan pies.
Actually, I don’t like pie much at all: The dessert menu includes pumpkin cheesecake, coconut cake, and German chocolate cake.
• Anything else I should know? Why stop at dessert? Bouley can supply the food for the entire Thanksgiving dinner.
• Ordering: Fill out one of the yellow forms (located just inside Bouley Bakery’s front door)and drop it off at the bakery or fax it (212-264-4186) before noon on Tuesday, Nov. 24. Orders must be placed 48 hours in advance.
• Pick-up: Monday, Nov. 23, through Thursday, Nov. 26. (You’ll choose a time window.) Last pickup is 4 p.m. on Thursday.

• But I hate pumpkin pie. Take your pick from apple, blueberry, cherry, pecan, and vegan-pumpkin and vegan-apple-cranberry-currant pies ($14–$16).
Actually, I don’t like pie much at all: Order a platter of fresh fruit, pumpkin or cranberry-orange tea breads, or brie en croûte stuffed with fall fruit compote; or raid the store’s candy counter. Whole Foods also has a wide assortment of cakes, cheesecakes (pumpkin, vanilla, chocolate, or raspberry), cupcakes, fall-themed cookies, and even a few sugar-free items (such as a cheesecake).
