Avatar: James Cameron’s sci-fi opus. Apparently it succeeds, but those blue people, I don’t know…. (Also being screened in digital 3-D).

Crazy Heart: Jeff Bridges as a has-been country singer; with Maggie Gyllenhaal and Colin Farrell.
• Also: Invictus, A Single Man.

The Neverending Story: Kids’ fantasy flick at 10 p.m. on Friday? Presumably most of the audience will be stoned.
