But while the store is having a big sale to benefit Haiti earthquake relief tomorrow and Friday, owner and designer Jackie Sencion says it’s not a housewarming party. (She’s saving that for a 25th-anniversary blowout.) The sale is being held in conjunction with the brand Taravao, one of whose founders is from Haiti, and Taravao will be offering up rare pieces from its vault. Twenty-five percent of Taravao proceeds and 15 percent of La Lumia proceeds will go to UNICEF and AMURT. Everything in the store is on sale, including two new lines—jeans and leather handbags produced with a cooperative in Honduras—as well as clothes from a handful of other designers and jewelry. The store/showroom will be open 11:30 a.m. to 6:30 p.m. for the sale; normal hours are 10:30 a.m. to 6 p.m. and by appointment. For more info on the sale, click here. P.S. Sencion is also known as the Fashion Therapista, available for wardrobe consultation, personal shopping, and more. 27 Park Place (just east of Church), Ste. 200, 212-966-3923, lalumiaclothing.com.

  1. La Lumia is a great shop, deserving of its owner, Jackie! It embodies the kind of entrepreneurial spirit and vitality that Obama was extolling in his State of the Union address.
