February 10, 2010 Restaurant/Bar News
••• I called Bill Levine, co-founder of Sarabeth’s, to see what I could learn about the restaurant’s plans for what was very recently Bazzini’s store. “We’re shooting for an August opening,” he said. “We’re in the design stage. We’re going to have a nice retail section—baked goods and all the products that Sarabeth’s makes, in a separate area—and we’ll be serving breakfast, lunch, and dinner.” Most interestingly, he said there would be outdoor seating, on Greenwich (right).
••• The word on Church Street is that Capri Caffé is looking for a larger space—good for them, bad for a block that really benefited from its presence.
••• Tamarind Tribeca took a step closer to opening at Franklin and Hudson (in the old Sporting Club), with signage appearing in the window. And it’s hiring.
••• At Franklin and Greenwich, meanwhile, in what was Greenwich Steak and Burger Co., Benvenuto Tribeca Café appears to be getting closer to debuting…. It’s a sister to a deli at Broadway and E. 23rd St., across from Madison Square Park.
••• TriBeCafe was supposed to open yesterday, but no one is answering the phone yet. UPDATE 2/10: It’s open.
••• The restaurant part of Fraunces Tavern is closing on Saturday, says Eater: “The restaurant space has been in business for just ten years under the current management (it was run by a different entity before them) and is mainly there to feed museum goers, host colonial weddings and themed dinners, and serve a weirdly large happy hour crowd in FiDi.” UPDATE 2/11: It’s only closing for a week.
