Tucked away on Walker Street is an absolute gem of a store called trans.LUXE. The little space is filled with quirky, unusual light fixtures. We’re working on a custom light fixture that requires a very large custom shade. As luck would have it, we popped into trans.LUXE just as the staff was setting up for an opening to reveal some of its newest lighting designs as well as a show of work by supertalented local artist Bettina Blohm. While sipping martinis, we started discussing with owner Sandra Santos the details of our lampshade, and she’s going to fabricate it for us. The moral: If you need a quickie lampshade, keep going to the lampshade store in Chinatown. But if you’re looking for a very special light fixture and quality is important, then see Sandra at trans.LUXE.
trans.LUXE is at 59 Walker, between Broadway and Church; 212-925-5863, trans-luxe.com.
