••• A sweet story from Soho Photo: “We recently received a request from Lt. Joseph Lee, U.S. Army, who will soon be sent to Afghanistan. His fiancée, Helen Tran, is an aspiring photographer who very much wants to see one of her pictures hanging in a New York gallery. As a birthday present, Lt. Lee wanted to make her dream come true, and he approached us about the possibility of exhibiting her work at Soho Photo, even if for only a short time. This isn’t he sort of thing we usually do, but we were so taken with his ardor that we decided to give romance a chance. Her photo is displayed through the end of this month!”
••• Taking advantage of the luscious weather—don’t you just want to run singing through the streets?—Franklin Café is opening for lunch starting today at 11 a.m.
••• Tamarind Tribeca says it’s not opening for at least two more weeks. I was walking by yesterday and a man, seeing me trying to peek inside, asked if I was planning on being Tamarind’s first customer. Might be time to pull back on the stalking.
••• More items have been added to Korin‘s spring clearance sale. This 11″ x 11″ plate is $52, reduced from $87. The 7.25″ x 7.25″ version is only $17.
••• Tribeca Treats‘ black-and-white cookies (which I can vouch are delicious) will be green-and-white today, in honor of St. Patrick’s Day. Also: Grandaisy is selling slices of its zucchini pizza, sprinkled with breadcrumbs and Gruyere, for $2.75.
••• Neighborhood Bar & Restaurant, on Church, is closed.
