After catching an unfortunate glimpse in the mirror, I decided to ban cookies from my life. And, in fact, I did not treat myself in any way yesterday! But today, faced with the prospect of sitting through the CB1 Tribeca committee meeting—I do it for you—I convinced myself that I deserved a brownie from Duane Park Patisserie. It was fine. What I really wanted, however, was another one of the chocolate-chip cookies a I had a few days ago, from Made Fresh Daily on Front Street. Now that Bouley Bakery is no longer a contender, I’m prepared to say that MFD has my new favorite chocolate-chip cookie (in the neighborhood, that is, and I haven’t made it down to Inatteso Café yet, which I hear is a contender). It’s crispy but moist, with a sparkle of salt, if I’m not mistaken. And it pairs nicely with whatever lemonade—ginger, or maybe strawberry—the shop has going on. Writing about this is not helping my diet.

I am a huge fan of chocolate chip cookies. Try Birdbath Bakery in the old Vesuvio bakery space on Prince Street off Sullivan Street in SoHo. Fantastic cookies and these use quality chocolate for the chips.
I’ll head over this afternoon to give it a shot . . . maybe I’ll bring one from Inatesso to do a side-by-side comparison.
