In the News: Another Parking Lot to Be Built On

••• “A 36,746-square-foot development site, zoned for multiple uses including residential, hotel or commercial office, situated at 84-86 White Street (right), just south of Soho and east of Tribeca, has been acquired by 84-86 White Street LLC for $8.3 million. The site was being operated as a parking lot under lease to Central Parking System of New York, before they vacated it as a condition of closing.” (Citybizlist)

••• “The 9/11 Memorial moved one step closer to completion this week when the first mound of soil arrived at the World Trade Center site. Workers began spreading the soil onto the plaza Monday evening, filling in an area between the tower footprints.” (DNAinfo)

••• “The city is nearing the start of the second phase of its sweeping redevelopment of Lower Manhattan’s East River Waterfront. By November, the city says it plans to begin tearing up the existing sidewalk and bikeway along a 1,165-foot section of Lower Manhattan’s frontage on the East River, between the Battery Maritime Building and Wall Street. That stretch, “Package 2” of the city’s $150 million redevelopment of the waterfront between Whitehall Street and Rutgers Slip, will take approximately 14 months to finish and could open to the public as early as January 2012.” (Tribeca Trib)
