••• According to Forbes, 10013 is the 12th most expensive zip code (based on median home price) in the country.

••• “Three residents of a swanky downtown retirement home were robbed of nearly $60,000 in jewelry—and cops say the caretakers may be the crooks. The thefts at the 13-story Hallmark Battery Park occurred in late July and August, with irreplaceable items swiped from the elderly women’s apartments, police say.” (Daily News)

••• “A new urgent medical care facility will be opening in October at West and Chambers Streets. ‘We’re not yet sure of the exact date, but we’re confident that it will be in the next few weeks,’ said Dr. Steve Okhravi, the chief of the emergency department at St, Mary’s Hospital in Passaic, New Jersey who is also the physician behind the for-profit center at 200 Chambers.” It will be called Emergency Medical Care (a rather un-Googlable name…). ••• “Who’s afraid of Edward Albee? Not the folks at Kings Pharmacy in Tribeca. The 82-year-old playwright marched up to the druggist’s counter the other day and unleashed the kind of acid diatribe that is usually associated with his work. After Albee complained it was the second trip he’d made to pick up a prescription, the pharmacist promptly located the meds and explained that the writer’s name was misspelled on the envelope. ‘I’m sure you’ve made mistakes, Mr. Albee,’ said the cashier. ‘Not twice,’ replied the dyspeptic Pulitzer Prize winner, whose tone provoked a nearby dachshund to start barking at him.’ Not to judge or anything, but I saw someone famous at the Kings counter the other day, and reporting on it doesn’t seem right somehow. ••• “The last time Shepard Fairey put a mural on display in New York, it was quickly covered in graffiti, boarded up and taken down. That is unlikely to happen with Fairey’s new mural, called ‘A Positive Thought Cannot Be Denied,’ [Tell that to Republicans in Congress! —Ed.] which he created with 100 lower Manhattan students through the nonprofit CityKids Foundation. The mural goes on display Tuesday in the World Financial Center.” (DNAinfo)
