Opening Oct. 31 at Jack Hanley Gallery is a show of pickle sculptures by Erwin Wurm. (Most Freudian sentence ever?) Says the press release: “As the title indicates, Wurm’s installation ‘Selbstporträt als Gurken’ [!!!!!] presents a portrait of the artist as uniquely cast and naturalistically painted pickles. […] Less imperative than they at first appear, the shriveled crooked pickles raised at various heights on pristine symmetrical bases sit back and wait for others to draw correlations.” I can’t remember the last artwork I wanted this much; it would go perfectly with my Claes Oldenburg corrugated-cardboard pretzel. My birthday is coming up….
