Seen & Heard: TOAST Event

••• On Tuesday, Nov. 16 at 6 p.m., Tribeca Open Artist Studio Tour (a.k.a. TOAST) will have a benefit preview of its new exhibit, “Visual Vaudeville,” which opens the next day at 368 Broadway. “Visual Vaudeville” includes the work of more than 50 artists, including painters, photographers, performance artists, even a hat designer. Benefit tickets are $15 (email toastartwalk@gmail.com to reserve). The gallery exhibit, which is free, will be open daily 11 a.m. to 6 p.m., except Thanksgiving Day.

••• Author Dennis Lehane (Gone Baby Gone, Mystic River) will be at Mysterious Bookshop on Nov. 15. His new book, Moonlight Mile, is “his first Patrick Kenzie and Angela Gennaro mystery in over a decade.”

••• Da Mikele, the new restaurant on Church from the folks at Luzzo’s in the East Village, should be opening “in the next week or two,” according to someone at Luzzo’s.

••• From Kidville: “Tribeca playspace is now open on the weekends! Each Wednesday, we will send out the upcoming weekend’s hours, and also post them on our website. This weekend, playspace is open from 2–4 p.m. Saturday and 10–12 p.m., 2–4 p.m. Sunday!”

••• Tribeca Wine Merchants has redesigned its website: “In celebration of this launch, we are announcing an incredible 15% sale starting today, for the next 7 days, including the vast majority of our stock. This will include rare wines from DRC, Cathiard, Dujac, Jonata, Clerico and more! Additionally, the first 12 orders over $150 will receive a free bottle of Fichet Meursault Gruyaches 2008—a $70 value and an incredible white burgundy parceled out of Charmes, and a Tribeca Wine Merchants east coast exclusive!”

••• At Birdbath Bakery today, I was praising the soup—which I buy in big take-home containers—when I learned that the shop also sells cups of soup around lunchtime. “And starting sometime next week, we’ll have oatmeal in the mornings,” said the clerk. “Well, it’s actually multigrain porridge.” A branding opportunity, I say, because “multigrain porridge” sounds like gruel to me.
