In the News: New-Build Hotel

••• “Nearly two years after the partial collapse of a 155-year-old, five-story building on Reade Street in Tribeca, developers are ready to revive their plans to put a boutique hotel on the site. Plans for the eight-story hotel at 71 Reade Street—much like the one planned for the site prior to the collapse—were approved by Community Board 1’s Landmarks Committee on Jan. 13 and will be reviewed by the city’s Landmarks Preservation Commission next month. The proposed new building […] extends from Reade Street to Chambers Street (with the address 87 Chambers Street) and is topped with a two-story penthouse.” (Tribeca Trib, which has more renderings; the one above is courtesy Goldstein, Hill & West)

••• Alycea Ungaro’s Real Pilates—and specifically, Alycea’s video books (Vooks)—got a nice couple of paragraphs in Virginia Heffernan’s New York Times Magazine column: “Alycea Ungaro’s 15-Minute Everyday Pilates […] has changed the way I exercise, and I’m now as devoted to Vooks for video reading as I am to the Kindle for reading reading.”

••• “It’s been on the market long enough now—on and off since 2007—that we’re starting to feel a little sorry for Penthouse E at Tribeca’s Ice House. Martha Stewart’s daughter Alexis has gone as high as $12.95 million with her asking prices for the place, but lately it’s only been melting. As of this weekend, the ask is down to $9.5 million.” (Curbed)

••• “New York Downtown Hospital is debuting additional services this year, the most significant of which is a new adult Wellness Center that opens today. The Wellness Center will offer at a single location both comprehensive women’s health services and preventive medicine, cardiovascular and endocrinology services (among them treatment for diabetes, thyroid disease and bone health) for all patients.” (Broadsheet Daily)

••• Matt Bernson, whose company is based in Tribeca (read the TC profile here), made Racked‘s list of “five smokin’ hot guys who happen to design shoes.”
