In the News: 9/11 Memorial Salaries

••• “Schoolchildren thought their penny jars and bake-sale proceeds would go toward building a 9/11 memorial at Ground Zero—not the six-figure salaries of nonprofit execs. But 11 staffers at the National September 11 Memorial & Museum each pulled down more than $170,000 in total compensation in 2009, according to the most recent filings. Four execs took home more than $320,000.” Sounds like a valuable life lesson for those schoolchildren, if you ask me. (New York Post)

••• “Tribeca phone booth a magnet for drugs and sex, landlord says.” It’s on the north side of Warren, east of Church, for those of us you who read that and thought, Ooh, where is it?! Actually, that reminds me of a recent conversation I had with another Tribecan. She had guests from Australia, if I recall correctly, who wanted to know where they could buy ecstasy. (Um, 1993?) She asked around and people said to try her doorman. I can’t even imagine trying to figure out what to tip a doorman at the end of the year if he’s also your dealer. (DNAinfo)

••• HotelChatter watched the new Kardashian reality show and reported thusly: “The girls ‘checked in’ to the hotel and were sent up to the 8th floor penthouse suite where a pretty awesome two bedroom suite with a living room, dining area, full kitchen and an 800-sq.ft. outdoor terrace awaited them. The girls promptly ran outside on the terrace where Kourtney shouted, ‘The Kardashians are here!’ Then Kim giggled and said, ‘We should throw something.'” Like your sister? (Oh, come on—you were thinking it too.)

••• Remodelista visited Rees Roberts + Partners, a.k.a that architecture firm on Chambers. I love the photo-heavy format. If you work in a cool office in greater Tribeca, let’s rip it off use it as inspiration. I’ll bring donuts!
