Seen & Heard: Hudson Square

••• From KGB Deals: $25 for five boxing or Muay Thai classes at the Wat (that place under the Starbucks at Broadway and Reade). Those are staffers at right, I think.

••• From Doodle Deals: $179 for a big spa package at Tribeca Spa of Tranquility.

••• From Poets House: “Friday, February 11 through Monday, February 14, you can support Poets House by making a purchase at Barnes & Noble Tribeca or at bn.com and providing the code 10428670 at checkout. A percentage of every purchase benefits Poets House.”

••• Trinity Real Estate released its vision for a rezoned Hudson Square (a.k.a. west Soho). It’s worth a look: improvehudsonsquare.org. Gotta love the ambition: a K–5 school at Duarte Square (across Canal from Capsouto Park), a plant-covered Whole Foods, shops, people, trees…. The reason Trinity wants it rezoned is that it’s currently zoned for manufacturing: “Zoning restrictions prohibit the development of cultural and educational institutions that could serve the residents of Hudson Square, as well as residents in SoHo, Greenwich Village, and Tribeca. For example, schools, libraries and museums are currently prohibited in Hudson Square. There are no height restrictions in the district, leading to ‘Trump-style’ developments and ‘big-box’ stores.” Italics mine. Anyway, here’s a before/after diptych from the site. In real life, the cyclists would be on the sidewalk or going against the traffic, of course.
