••• Tweeted by Max Goldberg: “Just heard that Matthew Kenney [right] is opening up a raw food restaurant in Tribeca.” He said he heard it from “friends in the organic industry.” Naturally, this got me excited, but Kenney’s rep denied it for now: “Chef Kenney is always considering his options in NYC. As his global footprint continues to grow, and his celebrity expands, it is inevitable that at some point Matthew Kenney Restaurant Group will open a restaurant in NYC. However, at this point, we have no announcements to make.” (“I have a very good source and I stand by it,” counters Goldberg. Interesting….)
••• Rickie Lee Jones is playing City Winery on July 5, 6, and 7.
••• I stopped by Columbine yesterday. The new set-up is an improvement in that there’s a refrigerated case where you can select your own sandwich or salad, then wait in a line to pay for it. (Soup is available at the counter.) Unfortunately, the line to pay snakes by the refrigerated case, causing a bit of a pile-up. “Didn’t they think about this?” asked the guy behind me. I’m sure they’ll work it out.
••• And I called Manhattan Youth to find out if they know when Pier 25’s mini-golf course would open. The word is that the keys can’t be handed over to MY until the construction is finished, and there are still items on the punch list. “We’re hoping it’s any day now,” said Alex. They can’t even start working on the snack bar’s kitchen until the work is done, so the mini golf will open first. In the meantime, registration is open for the teen beach volleyball league (grades 6–12), which will play on the pier’s new courts. See manhattanyouth.org for info (the link is on the home page’s lefthand side).
••• The first Tuesday of every month is Moomah‘s Mom’s Night Out: “While crafting, enjoy all-you-can-sip wines and snack on our signature appetizers (included in the cost of the workshop!) If that isn’t enough, every month we will host a different parenting specialist to offer advice and answer questions in a relaxed and casual setting.” On Tuesday, Apr. 5, 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. there will be a Keepsake Shadowbox Workshop.
••• Bill Barrett‘s 11-foot-tall bronze 9/11 sculpture (titled “911”) has been approved for Finn Square. It’ll be installed on May 4, and it’ll be up for six months.
••• From Peace & Love: ” Exciting news on the horizon! A deal us being brokered now to grow Peace & Love in NYC up to five new stores in the next year!”
••• P.S. I just deleted an email (forever, somehow) that was in my spam folder with the subject “Whole Foods”—as it was disappearing, I realized it might not be spam. If that was from you, please resend.
