Moomah’s Latest Workshops

There are still a few spots left in the spring workshops at Moomah, everybody’s favorite café/craft space, where parents and kids alike revel in the inspired atmosphere and art projects.

Wool Whimsy
In this 6-week, hands-on workshop, we’ll investigate different ways to work with wool, including hand-spinning, felting, weaving, and knitting. This ancient and useful art is a beautiful way to unleash creativity while developing dexterity, focus, and imagination. Children will combine colors and learn to sculpt wool into magical creations all their own. This is the perfect class for children interested in exploring the wide world of various woolen art forms. Wednesdays 3:15–4:15 p.m., 6-week workshop begins May 18; age 6+; moomah.com/classes/creativity_workshops.

Fiber of Fables
This 6-week, hands-on workshop is designed for youngest children to become familiar with the many types, textures, colors, and faces of the soft and creative art form. In working with raw wools, yarns, and felts, children will be creating their own small and easy crafts. Each class will be themed with a fairy tale, folk tale, or fable that will spin together to form a whimsical class. You’ll be surprised to see how tales we are familiar with have a textile theme weaved into the plot! Wednesdays 4:30-5:15 p.m., 6-week workshop begins May 18; age 4–5; moomah.com/classes/creativity_workshops.

Movie Animation
Make an animated movie! In this 6-week workshop, Emmy–winning animator Danielle Ash encourages students to further explore different techniques and advanced concepts like light painting and paper cut-out animation while working together to create their own animated story. The final week of class will be a showcase of students’ creations for parents and caregivers. Thursdays 3:30–5 p.m., 6-week workshop begins May 19; age 7–9; moomah.com/classes/animation.

Puppetry for Beginners
Who wants new fun friends? In this class you’ll have the opportunity create some of your own! They can crawl, they can walk, or they can fly. They can be grumpy or really, really sweet. Made of felt or papier-mâché. Colorful or not. You get to decide! Everybody is welcome to the invasion of new, strange beings at Moomah! Mondays 4:30–5:30 p.m., 4-week workshop begins May 30; age 5–7; moomah.com/classes/creativity_workshops.

Mom’s Night Out
On May 3, we’ll be taking on Quilted Collage, an embroidery technique using an assortment of fabrics. You’ll be given a 12×12 linen canvas, fabrics, and embroidery thread to create something gorgeous for you or someone else. Moomah’s own artists will be on hand to help you along the way. Our parenting expert will be Dr. Anne Marie Albano, child psychologist and director of Cucard at Columbia Univerisity. Make a commitment to yourself (and no one else) that the first Tuesday of every month you’re going to Moomah either on your own or with a friend to eat, drink, and make something beautiful. The first Tuesday of every month, 7–9 p.m.; includes food and wine! moomah.com/classes/adult_workshops.
