Summer Cakes: Tips and Trends

At Tribeca Treats, we have clients coming in every day looking for a customized cake perfect for their parties and events. Sometimes they’ve been specifically charged with ordering [insert superhero/princess/cartoon character of choice], but often they’re looking for ideas and inspiration. Summer is just around the corner, and it offers a wealth of fun ideas for cakes. Here are a few:

Take Me Out to the Ball Game
Nothing says summer like baseball, and boys, girls, men, and women of all ages can appreciate this theme. Customize a jersey with a name and age, or just go for the logo of your favorite team!

Fruits and Florals
Use the bright colors of summer fruits and flowers to inspire a theme for your cake. Match a pattern on a napkin, or just pick your favorite color scheme and get creative.

Bring the Beach to You
You could have your party on a beach, and probably get sand in your cake…. Or you could create a beachy feel using cookie crumbs as “sand.” Which sounds more delicious to you?

ID Required
Birthday cakes aren’t just for kids! Decorate the cake with a fondant version of an ice cold beer, a big salted margarita glass, or a highball glass full of a colorful drink, complete with frilly umbrella. Or you can take it to the next level and pick one of our boozy cake flavors, including Piña Colada, Hurricane, or Mudslide.

Let the Flavors Speak for Themselves
Sometimes the right flavor for the cake can be all you need to complete the theme. Take advantage of fresh fruit with the Berry Berry Good or Strawberry Shortcake cakes. Use the Mexican Hot Chocolate or Dulce de Leche (pictured below) to cap off an outdoor fiesta. The S’mores or Go Green Mint cakes can bring a Girl Scout/campfire feel to mind. Get your fix of these flavors now, because Sassy Pumpkin and Cinnamon Apple aren’t too far off in our future…

Go for the Gusto
For something extraordinary at any time of the year, think about ways you can truly personalize the cake for the guest of honor. Guests will ooh and aah over all the details in a recreated Facebook page, personalized crossword puzzle, or something representative of their life’s work or favorite hobby. Below is one of our most recent creations—a fondant version of a Frank Stella painting, presented at the Lifetime Achievement Award Gala for Frank Stella himself!
