Seen & Heard: “Project Runway”

••• Project Runway filmed on the Battery Park City esplanade today. A reader who goes by Hudson River (at least on this site) had this to report: “It was on the esplanade, where the volleyball court is. Can’t for the life of me figure out why, when they coulda used the Winter Garden and not worried about the rain, which mostly stopped while they were shooting. The challenge was to design something for stilts and they had 1 day and $500. It must have been a team challenge, because there were only eight outfits and 16 contestants. Some of the costumes were actually quite nice but they didn’t do the judging here, just the runway part, about two takes of everything. Heidi Klum came out and gave a short briefing at the beginning and in between. At the end she said we should see how tall the models really are, so she and Tim Gunn posed with them. Show airs July 28; looks like this was for the first one of the season since there were so many contestants. Guest judge was Kim Kardashian (not quite sure who she is but she seems to get a lot of PR).” Indeed. “After they were done, Tim came out and talked to some of the audience and took pictures with them.” Thanks! And thanks for the photos, too!

••• John Hiatt is playing City Winery on Aug. 12 and Aug. 13.

••• Torly Kid‘s summer sale starts Monday: 30-50% off all summer clothes.

••• Franklin east of Broadway is a burgeoning gallery district. I was just meeting with Alex Schuchard of Space B, which is flanked on one side by Kansas and on the other by Frontrunner Gallery. More on all three later….
