I tend to decline all work-related invitations that take place after 6 p.m., which is (a) pretty lame and (b) bad for networking, so I’ve made a resolution: I’ll go to one event a week, and I won’t leave until I meet someone new. Last night, I attended the Downtown Magazine party on the 12th-floor roof deck of the Visionaire. (I’m a sucker for a venue I’ve never seen before, and it was beautiful.) I was chatting with DNAinfo’s Julie Shapiro—whom I already knew—when Jason Perkal approached. He and Julie knew each other from the Community Board 1 meetings I don’t go to, because he’s a public member. He’s also a vice president in the Prince Group at Prudential Douglas Elliman and a resident of Greenwich South. He loves downtown, including the new Luke’s Lobster, and he’s looking forward to Death & Co.’s new bar, Demimonde, opening soon. The capper: He plays polo, mostly in Old Brookville on Long Island. Then he told a story about a polo accident the other day, how a player whose head almost got stepped on by a horse, and I grew concerned that the horse would end up being shot, which would have upset me greatly. It wasn’t.
You could be next. (Go on, invite me to something: tribecacitizen@gmail.com)
UPDATE: I just learned Joyce Dewitt was there. Damn!
