Love Wine? Join the Club!

There are many wine clubs where someone knowledgeable will choose wine for you every month. Most will come with tasting notes and pairing suggestions, perhaps a recipe. A few—including the Maslow 6 Wine Club—even offer interesting behind-the-scenes facts about the wines.

But what really makes the Maslow 6 Wine Club stand out is the social component. Each month, the shop hosts a members-only tasting with sommelier Mollie Battenhouse. As we all know, wine tastes better with great food and terrific company. “We taste eight or nine wines,” says Maslow 6’s Keri Kunzle. “If someone wants to switch something after tasting or order extras, they’re welcome to do so.”

Here’s what members have to say:

I’ve met some wonderful people who share a love of all things grapey. The talented and wickedly funny Mollie Battenhouse never fails to inspire; her tours of the wines of the month are often punctuated by amusing asides about the wine, its makers, or the oddities of the region. —Shelley

During a recent blind tasting, we got to try 10 or so wines, to compare, contrast, and to discuss and evaluate the color, the smell, and finally the taste. Another highlight was a tasting of Thanksgiving wines, complete with a mini tasting of Thanksgiving dinner. As a club member, I’ve received shipments of all sorts of different wines—some good, others not as much to my taste but that challenge my knee-jerk reaction to reach for another California Cab or Pinot. —Andrew

Helpful without being overbearing, the staff at Maslow 6 is one of the friendliest around. They listen to what you want and work with you to find a good match. And the club is a great way to meet people and learn a little or a lot about wine. —Garrett

There are three levels to choose from: Maslow 6 Series ($120 per delivery), Reserve Series ($200), and the Sommelier Series ($300). Each delivery includes six bottles—in the Sommelier Series, two are meant for laying down in your cellar—and the frequency is up to you. Finally, every member receives an online “cellar” on maslow6.com, where you can keep track of your wines, view tasting notes, and soon, share those notes with other members.

It goes without saying—well, almost—that membership makes a fantastic gift.
