February 28, 2012 Restaurant/Bar News, Services
••• Ray’s Barber Shop is opening on Park Place (in 100 Church).
••• I love Seamless because it’s so easy, but I always figured that using the site to tip (on your credit card) made it likely that the delivery folks wouldn’t get all of the money. Sure enough, when I ordered in a couple of weeks ago, the deliveryman thanked me for the cash: “I really appreciate this,” he said, waving the money. “A lot of people don’t, and the owner keeps some of it.” I’d name the restaurant but I don’t want to get the deliveryman in trouble (which is why I’ve waited to post this).
••• From Bubby’s: “Bubby’s new Japan outpost opening in the Akasaka district of Tokyo in 2 days! This is the first of two locations opening in Tokyo in 2012.”
••• I was disappointed to see that the signs requesting cyclists to walk their bikes through the northern path in City Hall Park have been taken down, even though the construction that inspired them is ongoing. A cyclist flew right by me at 6:30 last night, when the path was packed with people heading to the subway.

Last time I ordered on Seamless the tip was mandatory on checkout. There was no $0.00 option.
I never include the tip at checkout. I believe a tip should be given after the services are delivered. I have not come across any restaurants on Seamless who require a tip be entered at checkout but I would probably choose another restaurant especially now that this issue has been raised.
This is the same owner as Ray’s on Chambers, near W. Broadway. I hear they will offer complimentary drinks to those waiting for a haircut.
The signs for cyclists going through City Hall Park were a joke. They even had them facing in THE WRONG DIRECTION, so that you would only see them if you were riding against the prescribed way. And many cyclists never followed them anyway, even if they saw them (in their rear-view mirrors after they passed them?). Not to mention that cyclists still ride through the path around the fountain (also sometimes at top speed).
There is still much the city has to do to be friendly to both cyclists *and* pedestrians.
Ask not what your city can do for you, ask what you can do to not be an asshole to your fellow citizen.
I don’t use Seamless. Yes, it is convenient, but they take too large of a percentage from the restaurants. Take the extra time to call them and order.
dat’s unreal! i hope da deliverydude finds a new job with a more generous, ethical owner. i know that my tip doesn’t go entirely to the deliverydude but i would think standard operating procedure would split 100% of the tips (perhaps less credit card charge fee of 1.5% (small)) w/dude.
Props to TJ for the tip on the tip. Yo TJ, you’re right!
