Seen & Heard: Stark’s Veranda

••• Construction has started at 17 Park Place. Here’s what it’ll look like when it’s done.

••• The former eastern half of Karkula at 48 Walker has been rented by Soho Studios. The name gives Google fits—or the company has no website—but I understand it’s a product design group.

••• December 2 at City Winery: “Actor/comedian Harry Shearer (The Simpsons, Le Show) and his wife, singer/songwriter and humorist Judith Owen, present an evening of holiday music and mirth that will unite Christmas-lovers and Scrooges alike, in traditional and non-traditional holiday music, with surprise special guests.” Hope it’s more fun than the photo on that link. And December 21-22: Acoustic Los Lobos.

••• Let’s test the power of outdoor advertising…. The other day, the big ad on Warren Street and W. Broadway was being taken down. Can you remember which brand it was for?

••• The revised Community Board 1 agendas that just came out include this: “319 Broadway, application for exterior renovation, removal of sidewalk enclosure, storefront restoration and signage.” The Stark’s Veranda eyesore is finally getting cleaned up! (And the atrium is going! Right on!) Also on the updated agendas: The Oct. 15 meeting to hear about the Hudson River Park Trust’s Neighborhood Improvement District—which involves a fee if you live west of Hudson—will be at BMCC. It’s at 6 p.m.
