Ice Rink Coming to Wagner Park

The rink at the BPC ball fields from a couple years ago

Not 100% sure how this happens—it’s opening Saturday—without anyone beyond the Battery Park City Authority knowing (or maybe I just missed it), but the Broadsheet is reporting that “A seasonal, outdoor ice skating rink is now being constructed in Wagner Park, on the lawn in front of Gigino’s Restaurant.” The hope was to open before Thanksgiving, but, well, you can guess what happened.

Liberty View Ice, as it’ll be known, will be about the size of Rockefeller Center’s rink, and it’ll stay open through March 15.

As for hours pricing, says the Broadsheet, the rink “will open seven days a week, from 9:00 am to 11:00 pm. Admission will be $10 for adults (aged 13 and over) and $7 for children from Monday to Thursday. On weekends, the price for adults will be $15, but the admission for children will remain $7. Lessons and skate rentals will also be available, along with snack and hot chocolate in the concession tent.”

  1. Awesome! I was so bummed when the rink never opened last winter.

  2. Three Cheers for the fine folks who made this happen!!!!

  3. I walked by there this afternoon and there’s no ice yet; just coils. One of the guys working on it said it would open Sunday or Monday. It is very small but a great location on warm sunny days; otherwise the coldest, windiest possible place in Manhattan.

$10 seem like a lot considering how small it is and for the price of a round trip on the subway I can skate free at Bryant Park. The one on the ball field was great while it lasted.

  4. I walked by there again today and they said it would open Tuesday.

  5. Maybe Wednesday.
