Chef Bill Telepan Is Opening a Tribeca Restaurant

telepan duck riceIt’s time once again to pick through the preliminary agendas for the monthly CB1 committee meetings. They’re subject to change, so if an issue is important to you, check here before heading off to the meeting. My comments are underlined. (If you only care about Tribeca, scroll down to the photo.)

• 94 ½ Greenwich Street, application for a wine and beer license for De Novo New York Inc. d/b/a Café de Novo – Resolution Nothing online.
• Application for liquor license for 85 West Street for Bills DTM NY LLC, d/b/a to be determined – Resolution As in Bill’s Bar & Burger, the BR Guest chain; news of this outpost first surfaced in November.
• 44 Trinity Place, application for liquor license for WBGBK, Inc. d/b/a Wogie’s – Resolution As in cheesesteaks.
• 25 Broadway, application for Board of Standards and Appeals Special Permit for a physical culture establishment – Resolution Any sort of gym or fitness studio (if it has showers, if I remember correctly) needs this permit. It’s a morals thing.
• 110/20 Church Street, application for extension of a Board of Standards and Appeals Special Permit for a physical culture establishment – Resolution That’s the building (at Park Place) with De Janeiro on the ground floor. This is just a hunch, but could SoulCycle be getting some competition?

industria argentina 129121/9 Tribeca Committee – 6:00 PM
Location: Community Board #1 – Office, 49-51 Chambers Street, Room 709
• 50 Varick St., application for liquor license for Spring Studios New York – Resolution The big production studio and event space opposite the Holland Tunnel offramps; it was supposed to be discussed last month but got pushed. At least one member is convinced it’ll become a nightclub, so this will be contentious..
• Fresh Direct – Discussion One member is annoyed with the trucks parking on W. Broadway, next to the Con Ed substation.
• 43 Murray Street, application for liquor license for London 41 – Resolution The owner of Mudville 9 on Chambers is said to be opening a wine bar in the Eamonn’s space.
• 329 Greenwich Street, application for liquor license for Telepan Local – Resolution Exciting! I had heard that chef Bill Telepan (of Telepan restaurant on the Upper West Side) was sniffing around Tribeca—he had reportedly been interested in the Duane Park space before Marc Forgione & Co. snapped it up for Kio—and now we know where he landed: in the old Industria Argentina space. Some of you may recall that he briefly opened a pop-up restaurant in Pécan café a while back (which is where the photo at top is from).
• 175 Franklin Street, application for liquor license for TBD – Resolution Very interesting…. This is the space next to the old firehouse next to Tamarind. It’s been empty since I started paying attention to Tribeca; perhaps someone can enlighten us as to whether a restaurant has ever been there. (If not, and the space needs to be vented, it’s a big project. And if it’s just a bar, the neighbors will surely be up in arms.)
• 305 Church Street, application for liquor license for Los Americanos – Resolution I’ve been meaning to mention that the restaurant taking over the Pane Panelle space will indeed be Mexican (and not Spanish), and now we have a name: Los Americanos. I guess it beats The Three Amigos….
• 361 Greenwich Street, application for liquor license for TBD – Resolution Oh, dear. I guess this means that Flor de Sol is leaving…. Although sometimes CB1 does mix up addresses…. I’ll call later today to see if they’re talking about it yet.
