Seen & Heard: Ball Field Repair Work Begins

BPC ball fields 12913••• “Work commences on ball fields in BPC,” tweeted Peter. “Any idea how long it will take to complete?” Nope, but everyone is acting like it’ll get done in time for kids to play ball. The BPCA posted an update yesterday, saying that the project is to “remove the turf layer and padding (filter fabric) prior to the awarding of the contract to inspect and assess the impact of Hurricane Sandy on the drainage system before the entire padding and turf surface are replaced. A localized test patch will be cut in order to determine whether or how badly winter temperatures have affected the turf and padding—that is, are they easily separated or have they adhered to each other, as a way to prepare the most effective method of removal. As this is all outdoor work and can be impacted by the weather, the duration of this first testing and removal phase is not yet known. BPCA is working to compress the schedule in advance of the contract award in order to reduce the number of days of the overall project.”

••• When I saw “MJF Project” listed on the flyers around Reade and Church, I figured Michael J. Fox was up to something. Sure enough, OLV says it’s a comedy for NBC: “The show is loosely based on Fox’s real life with him playing Mike Burnaby, a husband and father of three in New York City dealing with family, career, and challenges, like Parkinson’s Disease. Breaking Bad’s Betsy Brandt has signed on to play his wife and Katie Finneran will play his sister in the series.” It’s shooting tomorrow.

••• Jackie tweeted that UFC Gym is coming to John and Gold. According to its Twitter profile, UFC Gym is “the first major brand extension of the Ultimate Fighting Championship, the all-time industry leader in the sport of mixed martial arts.”)
