Seen & Heard: Local Dance Documentary

Moving Visions••• Moving Visions Dance is hosting a free family screening (and pizza party) of Believe You Can Dance, a 30-minute documentary about a group of Moving Visions students, on Wednesday June 12 from 5:30 p.m. to 7:15 p.m.: “Featuring long time Tribeca neighborhood teacher, Loretta Thomas, and her students from the classes of 2009 and 2010. The film is also a portrait of a dance artist throughout her career who loves the thrill of teaching children the joy and delight of dance and and the determination it takes to succeed at anything in life.” Reserve a spot at 212-608-7681.

••• A reader told me that he/she had heard that Tribeca Community School was taking over the Bell Bates space, but I called the school and they flatly denied it. Know who’s taken it? Spill it.

gI_70007_Bil Smith Score••• From Laboratorie New Music, a music collective based on Leonard Street: “Laboratorie New Music will launch its new CD label with six new releases in 2013 beginning with a box set from composer and founder Bil Smith. Smith’s 2013 Pulitzer Prize nominated work ‘Explorer, Producer, Stoic After Your Fashion’ for String Quartet with its highly unorthodox graphic score will mark the premier of the label.”

••• About that church coming to 55 N. Moore: “This is simply their admin offices in the basement of the building,” emailed a reader. “There is no ‘church’ moving in and services are prohibited in this space.” (Various tweets implied there was more to it.)

••• Coming up : “Kicking+Screening Soccer Film Festival is joining forces with the New York Red Bulls, Football Artist Network, Howler Magazine, ULTRAS and many others inspired by the beautiful game to bring 4 nights of the best in global soccer films and culture to NYC on June 18-21, 2013 at Tribeca Cinemas.”

••• I kept thinking I’d have enough photos for a Photo Safari, but I don’t, so here—five days late—is a dramatic photo of a truck fire on Warren. Thanks to Michael for sending it in!
