This should surprise exactly no one: after Corton announced a summer vacation: Acclaimed chef Paul Liebrandt has left the restaurant to focus on the Elm, his just-opened place in Williamsburg, and a new fine dining restaurant with the same partners.
Owner Drew Nieporent tells the New York Times that he “floated the notion that Mr. Liebrandt could buy Corton outright [but] that idea never really gained traction.”
As for the future, here’s Nieporent again: “It’s less of me approaching people and it’s more people approaching me, and that’s gratifying in a large way. Keep your eyes open, because something exciting’s going to follow.”
