Seen & Heard: Who’s Responsible for the NSA Billboard

••• Balcony Café, the restaurant/bar coming to the old Mocca space at the northeast corner of Church and Reade, is getting rebranded as Church Publick before it opens. The door was open when I walked by—it looks very nice inside, although the huge bar will certainly give pause to Reade Street residents already aggravated by Sazón, Super Linda, and Ward III.

••• Something is happening in the storefront to the west of Steven Alan Home Shop (could it be 160 Franklin?). I heard jewelry. Know anything?

••• The updated Community Board 1 agendas include:
—Seaport/Civic Center Committee (Oct/ 15): Taste of the Seaport fundraiser for PS 397, Sunday, October 27, 11 a.m. – 4 p.m.
—Quality of Life Committee (Oct. 17): Commercial buildings light pollution – Presentation by Paul Williams. A good example: The Modell’s on Chambers is lit up like it’s in Vegas.

••• Clarification: Reade Street Prep’s preschool open house is Wednesday, Oct. 16. RSVP required by Oct 14 at 212-513-7737 or natalie@rsprep.com.

••• Reshoots of something called TIWILY (probably This Is Where I Leave You—more here) will happen in the N. Moore area on Saturday.

••• A couple of people have pointed out signage at 93 Worth indicating that a HSBC is coming—it is indeed, as we learned when the branch on Broadway between Chambers and Warren closed. (But keep those tips coming!)

••• Also, a couple of people have asked what’s happening in the old Biddy Early’s space on Murray. It’s becoming Washington Market Tavern, from the owner of Mudville 9. More info here.
