In the News: Lower Manhattan Is Growing Older

••• About 443 Greenwich’s sales office at Hudson and Vestry: “Adaptive reuse specialists Collective Construction Management posted some photos of the 10,000-square-foot gallery, which includes glimpses of a lush, landscaped courtyard, a model of the handsome red-brick building, a full kitchen and bathroom set-up, plenty of renderings projected on the wall, and more.” Not sure if the courtyard pictured above is a photo or a rendering of 443 Greenwich’s courtyard, but either way it’s enticing. Update: I was walking on Desbrosses when it occurred to me I could peek into the courtyard (see pic above right). The one at top must be a rendering.

••• “The senior population in Lower Manhattan (defined as people 55 and older)”—oof, that had to hurt—”increased by 79 percent between 2000 and 2010 going from 4,613 people to 8,255. This compares to an average increase of 19 percent in the number of aged in Manhattan and 16 percent in all of New York City.” —Downtown Post NYC

••• “Pair of Tribeca loft sales at 27 Leonard Street show 15 feet of wall is worth about $200,000.” —Manhattan Loft Guy

••• “Model ‘busted for stealing’ candy, fish oil from Whole Foods” Tribeca. —New York Post

  1. I turn 55 in November and in NO WAY do I consider myself “AGED”! :-) That said, my husband and I are, but far, the oldest people on our floor. My building (a Condo) is primarily people in their 30’s and 40’s with about 10% above 55 , but the vast majority of those are under 65. So while I guess this jives with the data above, if you make the definition of “AGED” 65 and above, it would be a far different story.

  2. Erik, where did you find that photo? I checked out the link you posted and all the shots of 443 are more realistic — like this one:
