••• “There is excellent news—for a change—for those who want art, music, and intellectual stimulation to continue to thrive in Tribeca,” emailed a reader. “Not only has master luthier David Gage re-upped the lease on his shop David Gage String Instruments at 36 Walker, but he and his wife, Judy, have expanded into the entire former textile warehouse—meaning that, among other things, they have more space for performances and workshops. The Tribeca pioneers, who have custom-made and repaired instruments from violins to bass fiddles to electric guitars for New York City musicians since 1977, will host their first salon Tuesday, March 24, to benefit Arts for Art, with a set by free jazz piano virtuoso Dave Burrell. Entrance is on a sliding scale and a discussion on ‘art, music, politics, and freedom’ will follow, said Todd Nicholson of the group, which teaches inner-city kids improvisation and holds the Vision Festival every July. ••• Flyers have been posted near Duane Park for “Violet,” shooting on Tuesday. According to OLV, it’s a pseudonym for the a Marvel TV show, “A.K.A. Jessica Jones,” to air be distributed by Netflix. (From IMDB: “A former super-heroine decides to reboot her life by becoming a private investigator.”) Adults’ interest in superheroes is mind-boggling.
••• And on upper Church are flyers for “Sharing,” shooting all next week. One of the flyers says it’s a “comedy revolving around a diverse group of people sharing an office space.”
••• Next month, Bit’z Kids will open a store at 73 W. Houston.
••• Pookie & Sebastian has opened on Reade.
Wonderful news about David Gage’s performance space. He and Judy are true Tribeca art pioneers and this effort is to be applauded by all. Look forward to hearing some original music or perhaps seeing a new performance piece. Well done.
