The Stragglers of Brookfield Place

The opening of many-to-most of Brookfield Place’s shops got me to thinking about what is still yet to come. Let’s start with the north pavilion, as I’m calling the building across from Goldman Alley.

Lululemon says it’s opening this Friday, April 3.

Lululemon at Brookfield PlaceI hear that Drybar has taken the space next to Babesta. It would probably be smart for the mall to have something that gets people to come at greater frequency than they might just to shop. (By the way, I was chatting with someone and we decided a stylish home store would’ve been welcome; there’s a lot of apparel.)

possible drybar at Brookfield PlaceAnother rumor: Club Monaco is said to be opening separate women’s and men’s shops in the north pavilion—one on each level. The upstairs space (the second pic below) is pretty big, so it may actually house two shops.

Someone told me Scoop had pulled out of its space under still-to-open Calypso St. Barth, while someone else heard the deal was back on. UPDATE: Racked got the Scoop scoop: The store is on (for a June opening).

Calypso and maybe Scoop at Brookfield PlaceVilebrequin swimwear is presumably opening in time for the summer swimsuit season.

VilebrequinI’m not sure why, but I thought L’Atelier de Joël Robuchon would be at street level on Vesey, to the east of the Brookfield Place entrance—but the signage is on the second floor, above P.J. Clarke’s, overlooking the plaza. UPDATE: “L’Atelier de Joël Robuchon will [also] have a casual coffee and bake shop scheduled for ground level beyond PJ Clarke’s on the corner with a few cafe tables outside for seating,” comments TKM.

LAtelier de Joel Robuchon at Brookfield PlaceOver on Vesey, meanwhile, we can expect the Spanish restaurant Amada (directly to the west of the mall entrance) and the Italian-American sandwich shop, Parm (toward North End Ave.).

Le District, of course, is slowly opening the rest of its facility. I didn’t take a photo, mainly because I forgot. The open-now sweets area has been jammed.

Around the ground floor, most of the brands have installed signage: Salvatore Ferragamo, Burberry, Gucci, Bottega Veneta (where the door was open—it didn’t look remotely close to ready and the under-the-staircase space is funky), and Hermès.

Of the brands said to be coming onboard—but of which there’s no sign yet—Davidoff cigars seems the smart bet. Cigars pair nicely with watches.

space next to Omega at Brookfield PlacePast Hermès, on the way to Rite Aid—think about that for a second—is another storefront. The only brand unaccounted for in this post is Eileen Fisher (if a lease was eventually signed), but there’s also one more storefront a few items down that could be where it ended up.

storefront past Hermes at Brookfield PlaceUpstairs, to the left of the Winter Garden’s staircase, is what I assume will be Ermenegildo Zegna‘s menswear shop—the news report had it as a “3,550-square-foot deal for a two-story store that will feature a 40-foot-tall glass façade on the north side of a new glass-cube atrium entrance on West Street.”

probably Zegna at Brookfield PlaceAcross from the Equinox is another storefront. Eileen Fisher? UPDATE: “I’ve read that the space across from Satya and Equinox will be a Japanese shirtmaker (the name escapes me now),” comments David P. Thanks! A Googling brings up a Commercial Observer article from March 26 saying that it’s Kamakura Shirts. “The Japanese men’s dress shirt company’s 699-square-foot space is across the hall from Equinox (opened last month) and sandwiched between a women’s fashion brand that hasn’t been announced and Time Inc.‘s lobby.” Expect it to open in three months or so.

Brookfield Place storefront across from EquinoxSaks Fifth Avenue is just down that hallway. It’s not opening for another year.

Saks Fifth Avenue at Brookfield PlaceLast but not least, there’s a storefront (I think) near Financier. The only store mentioned in the run-up to the mall’s debut that hasn’t been accounted for is Aspinal of London, makers of leather goods, silk scarves, etc. The news report said it signed for “just over 1,000 square feet [with] 100 feet of windows overlooking the redesigned Winter Garden.” I’m pretty sure that’s the only vacant storefront that can be said to be overlooking the Winter Garden. UPDATE: “The last picture you show is the former American Express Travel office,” comments David P. “Really no renos have been performed on that space since it closed. I believe Aspinal is going to be to the EAST of Financier (there was a small sign that said so on that space during construction).”

  1. If Scoop pulls out, Intermix would be a great replacement!

  2. The last picture you show is the former American Express Travel office. Really no renos have been performed on that space since it closed. I believe Aspinal is going to be to the EAST of Financier (there was a small sign that said so on that space during construction)

Also, I’ve read that the space across from Satya and Equinox will be a Japanese shirtmaker (the name escapes me now)

    • Thanks! Added this re: the space near Equinox:
