••• This came in yesterday evening from Community Board 1: “Due to a mechanical issue with the pavement marking equipment, the subcontractor was unable to place the pavement markings on Chambers Street as scheduled last night. Because of this, two-way traffic will not resume on Chambers Street by close of business today, 5/22/15. The subcontractor is scheduled to return on Tuesday, 5/26/15, and two-way traffic is anticipated to be in effect on Chambers Street by close of business on Tuesday, 5/26/15.”
••• Yesterday’s F-16 flyover was something else, if Chip Foley‘s photo is any indication.
••• In June at 3LD Art and Technology Center: “The world premiere of ADA/AVA, conceived by Chicago’s Manual Cinema [….] A gothic, Hitchcockian tale that uses old-school overhead projectors, actors in silhouette, an original score, and over three hundred shadow puppets to create a live, handmade animation about mourning and melancholy. Bereaved of her twin sister Ava, septuagenarian Ada marks time in the patterns of a life built for two. When a traveling carnival and mirror maze come to town, Ada is plunged into a journey across the threshold of life and death. This exquisite mix of live theater, puppetry, cinema, and live music creates a haunting, ephemeral tale that is ‘sculpted in shadows’ (Chicago Tribune).”
••• The NYC Dads Group is screening The Mask You Live In on Wednesday, May 27, at P.S./I.S. 276 (7:30 p.m.), with a panel to follow. “The Mask You Live In follows boys and young men as they struggle to stay true to themselves while negotiating America’s narrow definition of masculinity. Pressured by the media, their peer group, and even the adults in their lives, our protagonists confront messages encouraging them to disconnect from their emotions, devalue authentic friendships, objectify and degrade women, and resolve conflicts through violence.” Tickets here.
