In the News: Another Non-Local to Lead Battery Park City

••• “Governor Andrew Cuomo has appointed Hector Batista, a much-admired charity executive, to the board of the Battery Park City Authority [….] This move appears to be part of an ongoing policy by the Cuomo administration to ignore calls from residents, community leaders, and local elected officials for greater community representation [….] Currently, only one of the Authority’s seven board seats is held by a resident [….] For comparison, the board of the Roosevelt Island Operation Corporation, a similar State agency overseeing another government-sponsored residential development, is comprised entirely of residents of that community.” —Broadsheet (photo from Huffington Post)

  1. I don’t live in Battery Park but find it a bit odd as how that portion of manhattan continues to be run like a private Fiefdom..
It doesn’t make sense that they can’t find 4 qualified people from within Battery Park to be on the board…

    • BPC is a huge CASH cow with board positions and large government contracts doled out to pay off political favors. Unfortunately, it is just how “business is done” in BPCA. In spite of illegal and/or unethical behavior, the board members go unscathed due to connections in Albany.

The only qualification needed for being a BPCA board member is simply having done something big(donations, bringing a big demographic for elections) for Cuomo. If you take a look at the bios of current board members they are unexceptional and clearly not awarded by merit or ability.

      • I would figure that residents would rise up and complain against this nonsense.
Seems silly to have zero voice in the running of their neighborhood.

How often are these people in Battery park? Perhaps just long enough to pick up their “brown bags” and leave…

        Someone should raise a stink.
