••• The Bikram Yoga NYC studio long in the works for 158 Duane is definitely not happening. The co-op is trying to find another fitness studio to take it; the plans are said to be all done and approved by the the board and the Department of Buildings. (Below: an old pic of the outside and a recent pic of the inside.)
••• “Citigroup appears to be cutting down all the trees on Greenwich between Beach and N. Moore,” emailed R. “Are they also cutting down everything in the park? Will there even be a park once their done with their waste-of-money rebuilding?” Yes, there will be a park: Renderings here. And yes, they’ll be removing all the plants. From the November 2015 Unofficial CB1 Minutes: “They anticipate 18 months of plaza construction, with it reopening in the third quarter of 2017. It was a bummer to hear that 32 trees will be cut down, but they’re 30 years old and the life expectancy is 50, and they’ll be replaced with 47 trees.” Note to self: Stay away from there. I can’t stand watching trees be cut down unnecessarily.
••• The next Tribeca Meet & Great, organized by the BMCC Tribeca Performing Arts Center, is Wednesday Feb. 3, from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. at Douglas Elliman’s Tribeca office (90 Hudson): “We’ve been able to exchange some ideas, do some networking and have a drink with the neighbors.”
••• The Community Center at Stuyvesant High School is offering a basketball clinic Feb. 15-19; the instructors are former professional basketball players Jamel Thomas and Louis Frye. This page has the pertinent info; there are also sessions for ages 14-17.
••• City Pole, the pole-fitness studio on Beach, is hosting a “Pole Poetry” event on Feb. 2 with poets from the Nuyorican Poets Cafe.
••• A year ago, Eater reported that the Naked Lunch bar (Thompson/Grand) had closed, and that it was going to “be replaced by the Regent Cocktail Club, a classic cocktail bar which LDV Hospitality (Scarpetta, No. 8 [and American Cut]) opened in the Regent Hotel in Miami last year. The Soho branch is expected to mimic the Miami original, with cocktails and light food.” Doesn’t appear to be happening.
