Seen & Heard: Fabric Store Closing

••• Flyers are posted on Duane for a “Drew” shoot on Tuesday. From Variety:

Titled “Drew,” the Nancy Drew pilot hails from CBS Television Studios and writers Joan Rater and Tony Phelan (“Grey’s Anatomy”) who will exec produce with Dan Jinks. Described as a contemporary take on the character from the iconic Nancy Drew book series, the CBS project will center around a diverse, 30-something title character. A more mature version than the classic story, Nancy is now detective for the NYPD where she investigates and solves crimes using her uncanny observational skills, all while navigating the complexities of life in a modern world. [In other words, it sounds like every other show on TV.]

••• The windows at Grazin’ looked like they were papered over when I walked by yesterday, but I couldn’t wouldn’t get closer to take a look, because I had an uneasy feeling about the way this very heavy piece of equipment was being hoisted atop a nearby building. (That’s it near the top of the second photo.) UPDATE: Yep, it’s closed for good—see the third photo.

GrazinGrazin2Grazin sign••• Chef Ryan Tate, formerly of Le Restaurant at All Good Things, has co-opened a restaurant/bar in Miami Beach: “A&B Food & Co is an intimate, high-energy 35-seat restaurant that offers a unique modern Japanese kaiseki experience. Chefs John McCarthy and Ryan Tate have created a multi-course tasting menu that pays homage and respect to the kaiseki dining traditions but at the same time incorporates local ingredients sourced from Miami’s best farms and purveyors. The chefs have also developed a casual a la carte menu for Able & Baker, the bar and lounge space that adjoins the restaurant. The a la carte menu will include innovative dishes based on Japanese izakaya dining.”

••• PS Fabrics at 359 Broadway is closing. The building is not part of the 19-story Toll Brothers City Living condo underway next door to the south; if anything, its owner appears to have sold the air rights to Toll Brothers. UPDATE 3/14: The store sent out a letter about the closing and sale, which starts Thursday (below). It’s a little intense.
