Seen & Heard: Three Hudson River Park Updates

••• Nice to see the Sherman Zwicker—as the Grand Banks boat is named—back at Pier 25. The tentative opening date is May 2. Also, I hadn’t known that the Grand Banks guys are opening an oyster bar at the forthcoming Ace hotel in New Orleans.

Grand Banks••• And there’s finally progress at City Vineyard, the restaurant at Pier 26: The windows are papered and the lights are on. (Take what you can get, eh?)

City Vineyard••• The miniature golf course at Pier 25 is open today; it’s on a weather-permitting schedule till the official opening on April 15.

••• Kitchensurfing sends a professional chef to your home once a week to prepare a hot dinner—for far less than you’d think. For an upcoming sponsored email blast, the company is offering a local couple three weeks of the service in exchange for a brief interview about the experience and a few photos (which I would take) of the food being prepared in your home. Specifically, Kitchensurfing is looking for a couple with a baby or a child young enough that the couple can enjoy the dinner after the child’s bedtime. If you’re game, email tribecacitizen@gmail.com.

••• An anonymous commenter points out that yet another co-working space is opening in the area: “Verizon today announced an initiative designed to connect with New York City’s tech community, in which it will open a coworking space at its landmark building at 140 West [a.k.a. 100 Barclay]. The space will provide flexible workspace options for startups and entrepreneurs seeking access to a networked community of diverse talent and expertise. Verizon is working with Grind, an experienced operator of premium membership-based coworking communities, to curate the experience.” It’s being called Grind West. Sorry, Kimye, you’ll have to come up with another name for the next kid.

••• This Saturday at Torly Kid: “Explore the African folktale Anansi the Spider through the art of puppetry storytelling. Children will watch the story come to life while learning a fable told half-way around the world.”

••• You don’t see this very often: The basement apartment at 110 Duane got a vacate order from the Department of Buildings.

  2. The Grand Banks Boat has been at Pier 25 all winter long and the crew have been working, even on the few very cold days we had. I was admiring one man’s sea legs the other day when the water was very rough and he was carefully measuring and cutting wood as the boat was violently pitching with the waves.

    • OMG, I was there on that day too! Although, I was admiring Huck’s Mom’s sea legs. Those legs are quite seaworthy and create the nicest seascape! ;)
