••• Got a better sense (though not from the horse’s mouth) of what’s happening with Raccoon Lodge/Saloon. Raccoon Lodge’s manager, Derek, wanted to open the bar in a new location, but he and the owner, Ace, couldn’t come to terms on a deal. So Derek is opening the Raccoon Saloon on his own.
••• Is Marla Maples living in Tribeca? According to the New York Post, she “has moved back to New York to be closer to her daughter, Tiffany Trump, during Dad’s presidential run.”
••• The Tribeca Open Artist Studio Tour (a.k.a. TOAST) is coming up! It’s May 13-16. See the website for info.
••• The facade has been applied to the “cast-iron inversion” under construction at 83 Walker. I was excited about the idea of this building—that it would look as if a cast-iron building has been pressed into it—but I was expecting more ornamentation; see 361 Broadway, further below, for comparison. This just looks ersatz. It’ll help if the windows are rounded, as in the renderings.
