••• “The Irish Hunger Memorial is now closed until late Spring 2017 for waterproofing,” emailed J. “It’s surrounded by orange plastic barricades. Blech.” This is the $5.3 million in repairs for a memorial that cost $5 million to build.
••• Behold: What must be the longest monitor in the world, now on view at the World Trade Center Transportation Hub’s West Passageway (between the PATH station and Brookfield Place). ••• The demolition of 351-355 Broadway is complete. Love the ghost windows at the rear. Still no rendering for the forthcoming 19-story building, which will be called 91 Leonard (because its entrance will be at a tiny sliver on Leonard).
••• Best thing I’ve eaten in a long time: the fried green tomatoes at Houseman, available at lunch and dinner. The photo doesn’t get across how thin and crispy they are (and that’s fried basil on top).
••• Spin Ceramics on Howard is opening a tea café with—according to the barely visible signage in the window—sandwiches, pastries, and salads.
