April 25, 2017 Restaurant/Bar News
Will and Julie Horowitz, the brother-and-sister team behind East Village restaurants Ducks Eatery and Harry & Ida’s, are opening something in the former Sabor de Mexico space at 11 Park Place. Given the size constraints, it would seem likely to be a sandwich shop along the lines of Harry & Ida’s (rather than the full-service Ducks), but the Horowitzes are clearly inventive, so they could be ginning up something entirely new. Never having been to Harry & Ida’s or Ducks Eatery, despite reading great things about them, I did some recon at Harry & Ida’s. If the pastrami and squash sandwiches are any indication of what’s coming, this is very exciting news…. (P.S. That’s the lighter version of the pastrami sandwich; the full version has twice as much meat.)
UPDATE 4/26: They decided to give more info to Eater. The restaurant will be called Harry & Ida’s Luncheonette, and “It will be more old-school delicatessen, but at the same time have a much stronger emphasis on sustainability, healthier food, and financial accessibility,” said Will Horowitz. They’re hoping to open by mid-June.
