••• On May 17, Tribeca Trust is sponsoring a candidate forum for the City Council seat currently held by Margaret Chin, but she hasn’t confirmed her attendance yet.
••• A release from Chin’s office: Mayor de Blasio signed into law a bill, sponsored by Chin, that “requires all moveable, non-stationary cranes to be equipped with global positioning systems or similar locating devices. The requirement is a result of recommendations by the Crane Safety Task Force convened by the Mayor just after last year’s crane collapse [….] Another crane safety bill authored by Council Member Chin, Intro 1422, would require additional safeguards for cranes operating in high winds. That bill is currently pending before the City Council.”
••• The huge Marshalls discount store at 140 West/100 Barclay/206 Washington opens Thursday, May 18.
••• Also on May 18, it appears that local decor shops are staying open late for another Tribeca Design Night. (These events seem to be more oriented to the trade, but civilians are welcome.)
••• Not making this up: “From August 11 to 13, Arts Brookfield presents dOGUMENTA, America’s first art exhibition for dogs, at Brookfield Place New York. Not by or about dogs, dOGUMENTA is a curated art show for dogs. The exhibition is the first in America to ask artists to address the canine community’s concerns, interests and worldview and to make artwork catering to a four-legged sensibility. Featuring original artworks intended to intrigue and engage our furry friends and free giveaways for pooch and owner. The concept for dOGUMENTA was born during art critic Jessica Dawson’s New York gallery walks with her rescue dog, Rocky. It was clear that Rocky saw art differently than humans, ignoring New York Times reviews and artist resumes and engaging directly with the work.” Photo by Jason Falchook.
Just what the 100 Barclay buyers wanted crowding their sidewalks after paying $3000/sf….Marshalls shoppers! Might as well live at the Millennium Hilton and elbow through the C21 throngs for a lot less; and daily housekeeping. Yay!
