When I noticed the new “60” on the door and fancy light bulbs (not visible in the above photo) at the former newsstand space on the Hudson side of 60 Hudson, I put it on my watch list. And then I made a point of walking by—and today, I spotted something that I must’ve missed before:
Alumnae is “a collection of chic women’s footwear with a refined tomboy spirit […] designed by Sigerson Morrison ‘alumnae’ Kari Sigerson and Eliza Axelson-Chidsey.” The debut collection was spring 2016, and this would seem to be the first Alumnae boutique. (The line is carried by Barneys New York, Moda Operandi, The Apartment, Tomorrowland, and Fred Segal Japan, among many other stockists.) Vogue called the brand “the footwear phoenix rising from the ashes of Sigerson Morrison’s legal disputes (and Sigerson’s ultimate split from the empire she and Miranda Morrison founded),” and the magazine declared the shoes “affordably cool” at $400 to $600 (although the fur mules below are $1,095—sorry). I’ve reached out to the PR rep to see if there’s word on when it’ll open.
Even $400 shoes are far from “affordable”!
