As Robert noted, Citigroup opened its new plaza today, in advance of tomorrow’s “grand dedication” ceremony. It’s quite pleasant! (And heaven knows the removal of that massive, dark sidewalk shed feels good.) The main features are an oval lawn in the southeast corner, a reflecting pool, long wooden benches, a handful of café tables and chairs, and two large communal tables, one high and one low. Most of the trees are new; as they grow, they should help with the heat situation—light bouncing off all that glass raises the temperature on the plaza. Note: The plaza is open 24 hours a day, presumably with security the entire time.
