A week or so ago, when Langdon Florist was having a sale on baskets and racks, I was a bit worried that it was an omen. Sure enough, Langdon is moving to Staten Island. From its Instagram post about the move: “We will be opening our wedding & events showroom in Staten Island within the next few weeks. We will still be servicing all of Manhattan and the Tri-State area, with wire services nationwide for all of your floral needs. Looking forward to sharing updates with all of you as they come.”
The shop has been in the area since 1947. As owner Joe Rizzo explained in his entertaining Spotlight Q&A, “My friends Howie and Billy had had this shop, Langdon Florist—which was established in 1947—for a good 15 years, and they sold it to me for a nice amount of money. We used to be at 57 Reade, where the lobby of the new building is now. We moved across the street about 20 years ago.”
Here’s wishing Rizzo and everyone at Langdon Florist all the best in their new location. And I hope they can take their wonderful neon sign with them!

Very sorry to see you go!
:-(
Oh this is sad. I remember I went in once to buy
a plant and there was a memorial wreath sitting in the showroom waiting delivery with the Grateful
Dead logo on the shape of the Yankees graphics.
I don’t like this happening to all the old shops.
I will miss you.
So sad! I go there with my golden, Rocky, and will miss these guys!
Joe doesn’t know me probably but I know his flowers. My husband has been buying me bouquets there for years and he often did the altar flowers for St Andrews Church.
This is beyond sad. I often went in just to get an occasional order and everyone was so gracious.
