••• Planter thieves on Greenwich Street were caught on video.
••• Monk McGinn’s pub has opened on Murray, next to New York Dolls. The menu is below.
••• Poor form: Someone covered this fire hydrant with a garbage bag—possibly the construction crew at 30 Warren (which is using the hydrant for water) or the van parked just out of the frame.
••• The TV show “Daredevil” is shooting in the Broadway/White area tomorrow.
••• Regarding Bread and Butter, the restaurant opening where Denny’s used to be at 150 Nassau, Mruptight suggested the proprietor might be Robert “Don Pooh” Cummins: “He owns a few IHOPs and was to open a restaurant in the Bronx last year. He is a former record executive.” I think it might be. That’s him below, at the CB1 meeting. He mentioned he has a few franchise restaurants, and he certainly has the accessories of a successful record producer.
••• The Staten Island Ferry seems to have gotten lost yesterday. Thanks to D. for the photo. UPDATE: A very interesting explanation from S.I.: “The SI ferries are making test runs for possible future service to the west side piers, similar test runs on the East River for the east side piers. A few years ago the city sent one of the small SI ferries, the Alice Austen, into Great Kills Harbor on SI for a test run. It got into the harbor o.k. but had to wait for high tide to get out of the harbor.”

I sometimes see the Staten Island ferry near my apartment in Brooklyn, in the Narrows near the Verrazano. It’s usually very early morning, around 6 am. It goes by, turns around, and heads back to Bay Street. Very odd.
Test runs for mechanical reasons.
Up until 1965 the SI Ferry ran to Brooklyn on a daily basis. IN those days it was a car ferry as the Verazzano Bridge was not open. think there were two different Brooklyn Ferries…history may repeat itself :)
I thought that might be the reason. (My brother lived in 10306!)
Ive seen some “Bread and Butters” uptown- seems pretty typical prepared food deli spot- there are a plenty of these in the FiDi neighborhood but Im glad theres going to be someone to mind the sidewalk there- empty storefronts downtown certainly attract some very notable riff raff and unpleasant debris.
I think those are unrelated establishments.
Wow fascinating! Anything is possible but same name same city establishments seem rather unusual.
Thanks for the reply.
WHY didn’t whoever took that picture of that fire hydrant with a garbage bag REMOVE IT?
Someone could get injured or killed if there’s a fire!
I took the photo. I didn’t remove the bag because instead I went and told the cop ticketing cars 50 feet away about it.

Right response Erik: the police are the ones who should be bagging or un-bagging in this situation.
sanitation and the police are both supposed to ticket garbage violations. People in my building got $100 tickets for dumping a bag on the corner and nobody ticketed the clowns who parked this on a hydrant? But sanitation has to take the time to open the bag and hope to find some kind of ID inside.
If you look at the ticket issuance data on Open Data, you’ll see that, down here, Sanitation is seemingly disproportionately selective geographically, often not going that far from its district office.
