••• I did something I rarely do and called 311 about the dead tree branch in City Hall Park hanging over the sidewalk on Broadway between Chambers and Warren. I got a response saying the Parks Department would investigate it in person. Until it does something about it, you might want to avoid that stretch on a windy day.

••• B. reports that another Hudson Square building is getting redeveloped with a big modern topper: “The building at 163 Varick (southwest corner of Charlton and Varick, former home of Jazzy’s Fine Foods), is being redeveloped as a ‘Class A boutique office building.’ It will be gut renovated, with five new stories added on top. It will be rebranded as 60 Charlton Street. Their website has a really snazzy rendering.” You have to admire the way the rendering utterly diminishes the crappy Four Points by Sheraton hotel next door.

••• 65 W. Broadway is still deep in the foundation-digging phase.

••• This truck appeared to be scrubbing and/or buffing the asphalt, something I’ve never seen in all my years of walking around this area. UPDATE 7/26: See James’s comment and the third photo: The truck was prepping the street for line repainting.
