••• From the New York Times endorsement of Andrew Cuomo for governor: “Day after day, New Yorkers are being tormented below ground, at a cost to the state’s economy of billions of dollars, because of Mr. Cuomo’s inadequate efforts to address the crisis in the subway system. Let there be no doubt, the governor controls the Metropolitan Transportation Authority. As Mr. Cuomo has said, ‘If a governor wanted to step up and be responsible, he or she could be.’ It is past time for Mr. Cuomo to step up, to persuade the Legislature to approve congestion pricing as a source of revenue—despite the mayor’s blinkered opposition—and to find whatever other funds he needs to turn the system back into one of the glories of New York, if not the wonders of the world.” In my opinion, the editorial nails the reasons to vote for Cuomo, despite his many ethical shortcomings. (As for Cynthia Nixon, her “lack of experience in government or management of any sort do not inspire confidence that she could overcome the old guard in Albany to fulfill her promises and run the state.”)
••• The Broadsheet is back from summer hiatus with a long post on the jail tower proposed for 80 Centre. I didn’t read it, but often the Broadsheet digs up worthwhile info.
••• From last month but I just came across it: Architectural Digest visited the “Lower Manhattan loft” of Man Repeller’s Leandra Medine and her husband, Abie Cohen. The article comes up when you search “Tribeca” on the AD site, so maybe that’s where they live? Anyway, much of the decorating job appears to be paid placement for various businesses; whether anyone also had to pay AD is unclear.
••• The MTA put up that “Respect” sign at the Franklin Street subway station (as a tribute to Aretha Franklin, of course). —Curbed
Please tell us what we can do to stop the jail from our neighborhood. We was to to talk to Margaret Chin. #jailmargaretchin
