In the News: Popular Playground Closing for Months

At some point he fell asleep and when he awoke he discovered that his $4,000 Rolex was no longer on his wrist and that the woman had left the apartment.”

••• “Plans to bring a temporary ice skating rink to the top of South Street Seaport’s newly-opened Pier 17 development were approved by the city’s Landmarks Preservation Commission [….] The materials presented to the LPC on Tuesday concerned plans for Pier 17’s winter rooftop programming, which will run roughly between November and April. Plans right now call for an ice-skating rink, a skate shop, a winter market (like the holiday markets throughout the city), and a warming hut.” —Curbed

  1. That playground is immensely popular indeed and the repairs are of course much appreciated. That said, I do not understand the ‘undetermined length of time’ part; How hard is it to get an estimate from the contractor, if nothing else for both budgetary reasons as well as based on the time it took back ik 2012? This to me seems like a lame way to manage expectations and take off any pressure to get this done in the fastest possible way.

    • That’s the sad truth of tax dollars. Spend it or lose it. Have been there many times and have not noticed anything requiring repairs right now
      This will drag on for months. Will be lucky if they are ready by Spring… everyone makes more the longer they drag this out
