••• Two updates on the mayor’s proposal to ruin 80 Centre by plopping a 40-story jail tower in the gutted shell of the current building: First, reacting to her constituents’ anger at a recent town hall, “Council Member Margaret S. Chin urged City Hall to delay a scoping hearing scheduled for Thursday, September 27.” (That’s from her press release.) Also, the Historic Districts Council is pushing the Landmarks Preservation Commission to consider 80 Centre for landmark status—something the building should’ve had a long time ago. You can send a letter to the LPC via this link.
••• I spotted my first Urban Umbrella sidewalk shed in the wild the other day at 155 Sixth Ave. (en route to a tasty fried baccalà sandwich at Café Altro Paradiso). Is it more pleasant than the usual sidewalk shed? Sure. But what we need is Scaffold Law reform, not lipstick on the pig.
••• The Blood Manor haunted house will be in Tribeca this year, at 359 Broadway, the old building wedged between 91 Leonard’s Broadway side and the Cast Iron House. (So of course the website says the attraction is “coming to Broadway,” as if it’s yet another revival of “Oklahoma.”)

••• Time to check in again with 25 Park Row and 1 Beekman, rising on the east side of City Hall Park. The curtain wall of 25 Park Row continues to get applied (second photo), while there’s finally a glimpse of what 1 Beekman will ultimately look like—note the dark patch in the third photo.
••• The TV show “Happy” shoots in the Warren/Broadway area tomorrow. I don’t know if it’s this, as described by IMDB: “An injured hit man befriends his kidnapped daughter’s imaginary friend—a perky blue flying unicorn.” Oy.
There was not just anger, but I would say “rage”, at the more recent Town Hall regarding the jail in Chinatown. People shouted down the speakers, chanted “no jail”, called the speakers “racists”, etc.
This article shows photos of the calmer moments:

A rally tomorrow at DCAS Police Plaza.
I assume that means 1 Centre Street?
Yikes that gore photo was definitely not what I needed to see over morning breakfast!
What a welcome sight to see Urban Umbrella. Great lighting, see through, safe and aesthetically more pleasing than the alternative. Good luck wth Scaffold Law reform. Any alternative to the green wood monsters we see everywhere in the city is welcome, but costs the landlords/owners additional money, so true reform is unlikely. I hope Urban Umbrella spreads like wildfire.
So, Happy is one of our favorite shows. Gritty and dark urban fantasy. Just one season so far, so I am thrilled that they are filming another one!
